TKR is one of the major refractory manufacturers in Japan. TKR has greatly contributed to the economic growth of Japan by supplying their high quality products to various industries such as steel, non-ferrous metal, light metal, chemistry, electric parts and Pottery-Porcelain.
TKR offers a full range of kiln furnitures for firing electronic and magnetic ceramics and lining bricks for high temperature furnaces as well as special refractories.
The materials and forming process are determinded by consideration of the end use, properties, design, and complexities. Using high-purity artificial raw materials, all of the TKR products are formed into various kinds of shapes including high complex by vibration press, hydraulic press, casting or other own specific fabrication process and then fired at high temperature.
| 1954 | Tokyo Kokyu Rozai (TKR) Co., Ltd. (Original company of TKR Division) was established with a capital of 3 million yen, and started manufacturing super refractrories such as silicon carbide (SiC) and fused alumina based refractrories. |
| 1957 | Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd. (Mitsui Kinzoku) had imported SiC refractories for zinc distillation furnaces from U.S.A. Mitsui Kinzoku succeeded in developing SiC refractories, and has planned to launch the refractories. As TKR also had planned to build a plant, both parties agreed to affiliation in 1957. After that, Mitsui Kinzoku joined management of TKR. TKR has been developing kiln furniture for ceramics (china, sanitary ware, tiles etc.) based on technologies of super refractrories (SiC) and fused alumina refractrories since its established. |
| 1961 | TKR entered into technical co-operation with Carborundum Co., Ltd. who was a leader in the refractory industry. Since that, TKR and Carborundum had had strong co-operation in development and technical and sales aspects. |
| 1970 | Mitsui Kinzoku, Miike refractory plant was renamed TKR Omuta plant. TKR has been enhancing the manufacturing capacity in response to increasing demand. |
| 1971 | TKR developed an outstanding filtration system "Metalofilter" for molten aluminium. TKR has taken out a patent on Metalofilter in 9 countries. Metalofilter has contributed to obtain high quality aluminium products. TKR started developing kiln furniture for advanced ceramics (dielectric, piezoelectric ceramics, insulator and ferrite). As a result, TKR has had unique technologies and a large market share in these fields. |
| 1974 | "Rare Super" tiles was used at the floor of steel smelting furnace. As a result, Rare Super tiles have been realized as a superior material compared to other refractories. |
| 1976 | TKR was awarded the Nikkan Kogyo Shirnhan prize for the development of wear resistant materials. TKR products have been exported to not only Korea, Taiwan and Southeast Asia, but also to North America and Europe by virtue of the superior performance. The exportations have been expanding. The outstanding technologies have been exported to some countries, and contributed to the economic growth. TKR has collaborated with public research centres and universities in developing oxide ceramics and non-oxide such as carbide, nitride and boride ceramics. |
| 1990 | Mitsui Kinzoku took over TKR to branch out into the ceramic business as a diversification of the business. TKR was renamed Mitsui Kinzoku, TKR Division. |
| 1993 | "Metaloflor" was awarded the technical prize on the first Japan Light Metal Association Award. TKR has marketed silicon nitride advanced ceramics "Hi-Cera SN" and titaniumdiboride advanced ceramics "Hi-Cera TB" for molten aluminium applications as a result of TKR's original development. Hi-Cera SN series products such as heater tubes and protection tubes have satisfied customers with the exceptional corrosion resistance, heat shock resistance and other properties. |
| 1996 | Omuta plant installed new facilities (high tall furnace and automated forming machine) to meet customer's demand. |
| 1999 | Crystec becomes in cooperation with Iwatani the European representative. |
